Review Flash

It is a rather seldom phenomenon to get my hands on anything from Norway but even more seldom are bands from Norway that I want to review (not that I know many bands from the northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula). WAIL was formed just 5 years ago and yet this is their second output. It is a rare occurrence that I can’t put my finger on whom the vocalist (brilliantly called the singer...) reminds me of, he has moments that evoke the thought of Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST) and then he comes off like Bruce Dickinson (IRON MAIDEN), while both are awesome artists to be compared to there is an quality that “The Singer” has that both icons lack: he manages to agitate me. I’d wish he would just step off the gas and tries a more chilled down attempt at singing (screaming through the songs just because you can is draining the life-force out of me). Drummer Cataltepe does the same thing, don’t get me wrong this is bitchin’ on a high level because these guys are top notch musicians, but it is too much and I miss the catchy tune that wins by being not too complicated and blown up.

Conclusion: While these gentlemen are awesome musicians I’d wish for less of it all, less power, speed and screaming and more melodies. Keep it a bit more simple.
