Review Flash

If you are named Kevin, then your parents for some reason thought you looked like a Kevin. Or they just liked the name. Or they had a cruel streak and wanted to blight your life even before it had a chance to get started. When you are a grown up, and deciding to be in a band, you get to choose your own band name. It’s like a second chance. You don’t have to be Kevin anymore. And so, after much deliberation with your band mates over hideous amounts of alcohol in a trendy bar somewhere humid, you decide on ‘Princess Goes To The Butterfly House’, and you convince yourselves that this name is full of playful intrigue, a certain poetic nostalgia, social commentary about the fickle reporting of modern news, that kind of thing. But it is none of those things. It is simply a crap name. Like Kevin.

This is basically a vanity project for actor Michael C Hall (‘Dexter’). It doesn’t need to exist, the singing is generic and forgettable, there is blandness spread so thickly you’ll feel unable to ever free yourself again from its sticky pull, and if you want to know what death by migraine actually feels like, then step inside the song ‘Sideways’ and marvel, open-mouthed, at the hideousness of it all.

Conclusion: Still a Kevin…
