Review Flash

MACE’N’CHAIN is a one-man project formed by David Nilssen (FERAL, DWOOM), when lock-down’s did hit the world in 2020 and 2021 David decided to create some barbarian, epic, sword-swinging heavy metal that truly honours thy ancestors. If you dig bands like RYGHÄR, ETERNAL CHAMPION, VISIGOTH or GREYHAWK you will get more of this style and really nicely produced and executed. Both, ‘Upon the Anvil Formed’ and ‘Labyrinthian Black’, are red hot steel forged in the fire of the golden years of bands like CIRITH UNGOL and MANOWAR. The sound of the first two tracks is masculine, sweaty and on the verge of starting a war and then comes song number three: KREATOR’s ‘Pleasure to Kill’, an old-school Thrash Metal hymn that roll right over you like a tank. So there’s this distinctive sound but there are surprises too. I really enjoyed this and now I am left to wonder what the soon to be announced full-length may bring us.

Conclusion: A nice 14:40 to kill some time and bang your head, check this out because the full-length might be something we might talk about for some time...
