ARKHAM WITCH is a UK based Doom Metal band that was formed in 2008. As some of you readers already know I got the hots for good written and played Doom so it was a no-brainer when I was asked if I want to review these folks. ARKHAM WITCH is not by any means one of those bands that take themselves too seriously (‘The Beretta from Valletta’, ‘Droid Fucker’), but as many more humorous bands they do take their music and the band itself serious enough to not come across as a goofy, gimmick band. In fact, I really like bands that seriously rock but manage to put a smile on the listeners face every now and then. Musically this is not too complex, rather like a slow and Doom influenced 80s Thrash band (sounds awesome? It is!). Rusty Pickups is a vocalist with a good but not astounding range, he sounds fun and gets his point across and that is more than I can say of 60% of bigger, well-known bands. Dodo on guitars is the selling point when it comes to the signature Doom sound, that lad lays some sick riffs down I can tell you! The rhythm department consists of Countess Bashery on drums and Klankenstein on bass and these too are quite essential to the overall ARKHAM WITCH sound. This band is for every old-school metalhead that adores PENTAGRAM, CIRITH UNGOL and HELL.
Conclusion: This was my first time with ARKHAM WITCH and I have to say I really dig the kinda strange approach to Doom these folks have a go at.
