Donots - “25th Birthday Slam” - Support: Itchy + Samiam
When you as a band manage to turn 25 years, you definitely are in for a true celebration. The DONOTS from a tiny German town called Ibbenbühren have managed to stay together for a quarter of a century, and they seemingly are going full circle by celebrating this in style at the Düsseldorf Stahlwerk with exact the same band, they have opened for 20 years ago at this very place. THE DONOTS have promised to bring everything you need for a feisty anniversary: famous special guests, confetti, lots of green bottles and a hangover on the next day. And lots of fans followed the invitation, as the venue was sold out pretty quickly.

Light The Torch - “Revival” Tour 2019 - Special guests: Malcolm Rivers
LIGHT THE TORCH arose from the ashes of DEVIL YOU KNOW, the band around ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE singer Howard Jones. Within four years, the Californian New Metal formation DEVIL YOU KNOW had gained a worldwide reputation as an extremely captivating live band. Then followed a break with the departure of their drummer and founding member John Sankey along with some legal struggles. After a reorientation and the completed search for a new drummer, the formation started again as LIGHT THE TORCH. ‘Revival’, their programmatically titled first album under this new name, has clearly gained in melodics and compositional finesse without losing pressure and intensity. To find out how this would translate into the live setting, I made my way to Essen to the Zeche Carl.

Aesthetic Perfection - “Into The Black” Tour 2019 - Support: Amelia Arsenic, Priest
On a very sunny Easter weekend I travelled to Frankfurt to visit my first out of two AESTHETIC PERFECTION concerts of the “Into the Black” tour. After having listened to the new album, ‘Into the Black’ which was released three weeks ago, I was really looking forward to seeing the band on stage again. My expectations were very high. And what can I say - I was not going to be disappointed at all.

Sector - North & South Fusion 2019
Sometimes there are days like this… It is Thursday evening before Good Friday and there are several great events one would love to go to. However, lucky me while the prior planned live performance with AMELIA ARSENIC, PRIEST and AESTHETIC PERFECTION at Kaiserkeller ended around 10:30 pm, just literally a few meters away at Indra Club, SECTOR were about to start at 11 pm at the “North & South Fusion” special. Unfortunately there was no chance to catch the other bands playing before, but at least I’ve made it pretty non-stressful for the headliner of the night.

Goethes Erben - Kammerkonzerte 2019
GOETHES ERBEN are sure one of the classics of the gothic scene. Founded 1989, they were important pioneers of Neue Deutsche Todeskunst with their unique style blending music, voice and theatrical elements. In 2007 GOETHES ERBEN played two last shows before a long break. Luckily, Oswald Henke revived the project for their 25th anniversary in 2013 and after that they became more and more active again, even though this time without Mindy Kumbalek who had been a core member of the band for most of the time. Nonetheless, there was a whole music theatre called ‘Menschenstille’ in 2015 and in 2018 GOETHES ERBEN published a new album called ‘Am Abgrund’. So, GOETHES ERBEN are far from just being a dusty classic. Instead, they are a band which is very alive and actively exploring new musical paths.
