‘High Like the Angels’ is the debut album by Russian Future Pop/ Synth Pop act ALPHA POINT. This band was the winner of the “The Battle Of The Bands” contest organized by the music magazine Sonic Seducer. This album is strangely named the same like the last EP release and could create some confusion which we hopefully survive. Although Moldavia is not really known as birthplace for electronic music like Future Pop or Synth Pop. But OUT OF LINE probably fished a little valued gem from the sea. The opener ‘Things I Do’ combines danceable and extremely pleasant melodies with driving synths carried by a clear voice creates a real good and enjoyable mood which runs through the whole album. The following both tracks ‘High Like The Angels’ and damn catchy ‘Emptiness Within’ impress with the same with the same elements like their predecessor.
With ‘God’s Anger’, the things get a little bit harder and electric guitars brought in to reinforce a slightly rougher sound. This e-guitars appeared here and there but electro purist don’t have to worry, they appear in most subtle ways like in the quiet and almost playful track ‘Wind’. The debut album from ALPHA POINT could also convince on the second part. Tracks like ‘Alive’ reflect the power and vitality of this CD also the song ‘Love Is For Free’ is simple fun to listen. ALPHA POINT still left some room in terms of variety because most of the songs are still very similar but that’s ok in context to the total twelve total tracks and the recipe is fundamentally successful. So I recommend ‘High Like The Angels’ with clear conscience but I also hope that the successor album will have more variation.
