EP Review

The duo DOUBLE ELVIS, which is named after Andy Warhol’s iconic 1963 artwork, came to life in 2007. The band has had significant radio exposure and opened for NEW MODEL ARMY in France already, whilst working on their first little treasure 'Vampyre Songs', heralding the release of their debut album, set for release at the end of 2010.

With a luring female voice we're being dragged into the centre piece of the debut EP, called 'Vampyre Song', bearing strong resemblances to a German band called ESCAPE WITH ROMEO on this track where the drums and melancholic streams of synth atmosphere flow into one another with subtlety. The catchy chorus and pithy vocals of Jean-Christophe wrap up the package. 'Part II' of the centre piece relies on creeping industrial soundscapes and the layers only come forward when it's time for the chorus, having much more impact as their entire emotional content rains down on you with full force. ' A Sea Of Ashes' lulls you in with a slightly reverberating guitar intro, then gears up with high pace rhythms, pushing and caressing at the same time. DOUBLE ELVIS also added two live tracks to the list with 'Virginia Tech' and 'The Art of War', the first one impressing with its hymnal and harshly rocking orchestration; the second one surprising with a distinct Punk influence inside its fabric.

'Vampyre Songs' is a amazingly mature debut release from a band yet unknown in our realms, but they've got all it takes to attract international audiences with their catchy and elaborate sound. Thumbs up for this EP!
