Album Review

!DISTAIN was formed in 1992 by Alexander Braun, Oliver Faig and Sebastian von Wyschetzki. In February 2002, singer Alexander Brown and Manfred Thomaser started writing new songs, the first demo arriveed at Chrom records. One year later (2003), Oliver Faig and Sebastian von Wyschetzki separated from the band to start a new project. Alexander Braun continued !DISTAIN together with Manfred Thomaser.

‘on/off’ was an easy and nice pleasure to review and listen to since this kind of synth-pop music holds a special place in my heart and ears. What I like the most with this album is that it sounds very much like the old synth-pop music from the 80´s but with a modern twist from !DISTAIN. I like the good melodies and simply love the way Alexander Braun sings. It’s easy to hear what he sings and that only adds to the danger of really getting many of the songs on this album badly on your mind. ‘Why (bootlicking hypocrites)’ quickly became a favourite of mine, mostly because of the relaxed and cool feeling it brings. The smart and thought worthy lyrics also caught my interest.

‘What do you want from me?’ is a special and intense song that begins with Tess Fries slowly asking “what do you want from me” and then Alexander’s voice follows up with a line that ends with the same question. This catchy song is another favourite; it brings a chorus that is very easy to get on your mind. It’s a pleasure to listen to the mix of Tess and Alexander’s voices and the way their vocals accompanies each other perfectly all through the song. Strong and cool lyrics that is easy to relate to and grasp. ‘Together’ is a very beautiful and moving love song where the music caresses your ears. The moving chorus kind of takes it all higher. The vocals are sung with so much feeling; it builds up the atmosphere and a song that really leaves an impression.
