Album Review

A SILENT EXPRESS are said to be inspired by bands like DURAN DURAN and SIMPLE MINDS. Certainly that expression is justified, not in the copy-cat way, but in the way of strong, catchy synth-underlined rock, big tunes, confident and nonchalant attitude. It’s been a long road from touring in an ambulance bus, but last year they’ve secured a record deal with new record company and their single video was directed by S. Pistel who amongst some others did work for their inspiration DURAN DURAN         , must feel nice for the four young guys somewhere from North Holland.

As far as it concerns their new album ‘Now!’, their sound is quite mainstream, the first three or four songs show a promise of something fresh for the otherwise stale scene of pop-rock, but the problem starts with later creations, they lose energy and become tedious and begin to slip into boredom. ‘Feel The Energy’ might be an exception to the slip down of the album, it’s a pleasant, catchy and more distinctive song, and the verve comes back from where it went to sleep. They need to sustain their interest in every one of their songs, to make them more different from one another and not to follow formulas but get more creative and put as much verve into every song for the weaknesses to be negated.

I think there will be many who will find this album enjoyable, there’s some promise within the band, but for those who want more out of the music, there’s not much to be excited about here, and it’s not one bound to stick in the memory for long.
