Album Review

The biggest pull for HEADLESS will be the name of Scott Rockenfield of QUEENSRYCHE, even the band’s promo likes to say that its songs “are shaped and arranged around the top class drumming” of his though there’s a lot to be said about the guitars pulling enough attention to themselves too. Their vocalist, Göran Edman is also not a stranger either as he’s known from YNGWIE MALMSTEEN etc. The style reaches to good ol’ Hard Rock with more classical Heavy Metal and some prog elements. Though it feels like vintage as it’ll certainly recall the heydays of both styles, but not in an unpleasant way – they manage to pull it off unsentimentally and without belabouring in trying to make it far too modern (most ‘modern’ being ‘Be Myself’) or to drown it in a far too un-relatable nostalgia for younger listeners. Its closing with ROLLING STONES’ ‘As Tears Go By’ It’s quite fun, the songs are catchy with good sensibility for melody, with some great musical skills on show, it’s to be thoroughly enjoyed!
