Album Review

From the never-sleeping and ever glittering city of Las Vegas now comes an ambitious four-piece by the name of TAKING DAWN to bring some fresh wind into the rock world up there in their native, and over here with their debut long player 'Time to Burn'.

One can't even begin to doubt this also is some kind of motto for the young band regarding their music when you hit the play button and get thrown at with a firework of energy driven power rhythms and riffs, dominating the opener and title track. Besides that, it also has a gripping hook line that'll make it pretty easy getting a crowd into singing it in a live circuit. And if I may mention that I love that solo. 'Like a Revolution' first purports to push the brakes but then reveals streamlined and light-speed melodies and rhythms. Try head banging to that and an aching neck is guaranteed the following day. A playful melody brought to us with extraordinary dexterity opens the track 'So Loud', which holds the line "I'd sell my soul for rock'n'roll" Guys, to me it sounds like you already did that ;) The acoustic flourishes, starting 'Close Your Eyes' reveal a calmer side of the four-piece which is giving melancholy a whole lot of space to unfold.

Maybe it does sound a little too polished at times but instead of countless acts who audibly lack that attribute, TAKING DAWN have that extra bit of passion that's permeating the music all the time and sets them apart from the mass. 'Time to Burn' is a good album, only I would have loved to hear something more raw and edgy at times. But they've just started and who knows what will come of this band in the future.
