BKA-Theater, Berlin, Germany
14th October 2010
Schneewittchen

SCHNEEWITTCHEN is one of the most interesting German alternative bands. Marianne Isar (vocals) and Thomas Duda (instrumentals), started to make music together in Hildesheim in 1996, using simply their names as a band name. In 2000, they choose the name SCHNEEWITTCHEN (snow white), a name of an old German fairy tale, for their band project. They mix successfully elements of very different styles, and as per their own disclosure, they are influenced both by the classical German songs written by Schubert and Schumann and by the French chanson, but also by Punk and other styles. When SCHNEEWITTCHEN was still simply “Mariannes Isar & Thomas Duda”, they used to play at cabarets, but after a few years they changed and started to perform at concert halls, music festivals and street fests, gaining in popularity every year. www.schneewittchenmusik.de

Music & Performance
SCHNEEWITTCHEN played at 14th October their last gig in Berlin for this year. They presented their program “Fürchte Dich nicht” (don’t be afraid of) in the nearly full BKA-Theater. SCHNEEWITTCHEN has got a fan community which consists in very different people. Thus, at the BKA-Theater young gothic people were sitting together with mid-aged gay couples and older regular guests of the BKA. SCHNEEWITTCHEN didn’t have a support band and appeared at the stage very punctual with only five minutes of delay, a very likeable attitude.

Marianne and Thomas managed to create an exceptional atmosphere at their performance. Marianne entered the stage dressed in a very spectacular outfit, a white wedding dress adorned with red roses. Her voice was powerful and very loud and she filled the stage with a lot of energy. Thomas, who played both keyboard and piano and made the background vocals, accompanied her very successfully. The audience got quickly into the presentation. At the latest by the third song they played, ‘Gemeinsam untergehn’, SCHNEEWITTCHEN had captivate the listeners. They presented a new song dealing with loneliness and this one was highly acclaimed by the public. When Schneewittchen played ‘Perlen vor die Säue’ (pearls for pigs) and Marianne threw her pearl necklaces into the audience, the mood at the BKA became ecstatic.

After playing eight songs, SCHNEEWITTCHEN made a break of half an hour. Marianne changed her dress at the break and reappeared wearing a red flamenco dress. After the time-out, SCHNEEWITTCHEN played some of the public’s favourite songs, like ‘Keine Schmerzen’ and ‘Sadistisch’. Berlin enjoyed even the first release of SCHNEEWITTCHEN’s new song ‘Wunderbar’, a sad song about an impossible love. After a total of 15 songs, SCHNEEWITTCHEN finished their official performance, although they played three encores. It can be said that the concert was a really exit, not only because of the impassionate performance of Marianne and Thomas and the high musical quality, but also because of the excellent light performance, which even Marianne herself praised at the final of the concert.
