pixies beneaththeeyrieFrom the depths of the subconscious, with a supernatural but somehow strangely familiar and even a little disturbing feeling… welcome to the brand new studio album of THE PIXIES! ‘Beneath The Eyrie’ is the name of the latest work of the American Indie Rock legends; a collection of adult fairy tales about witches, Daniel Boone, and the nerds and other outsiders that inhabit the wonderfully weird PIXIES cosmos. The 12-track album will be available worldwide on Friday, September 13 via Infectious / BMG.

With the single, ‘On Graveyard Hill’, Black Francis (vocals, guitar), Joey Santiago (guitar), David Lowering (drums) and Paz Lenchantin (bass) they give us a first taste of the coming album. ‘On Graveyard Hill’ is co-composed by Francis and Lenchantin and narrated in classic PIXIES style with in-your-face fairy tales of dark forces and imminent demise.

Korda Marshall (SVP of BMG Music, UK) said: “There is not many bands that have shaped the musical landscape and changed listening habits. THE PIXIES are definitely one of those bands, poised with their fantastic new album again ready to blow up. We are honoured and incredibly proud that they signed with Infectious / BMG and we are looking forward to it being a successful collaboration.”

Written in 2018, ‘Beneath The Eyrie’ was produced by the multiple Grammy nominee Tom Dalgety (Ghost, Royal Blood, Pixies ‘Head Carrier’ album) last December in the Dreamland Studios near Woodstock near New York. During one recording break drummer David Lowering was outside the studio - the now rebuilt, former St. Johns Church dating back from 1896 - and noticed above it an eagle’s nest, (in English ‘Eyrie’). The album title ‘Beneath The Eyrie’ was born.

For the first time THE PIXIES have made the studio recordings for ‘Beneath The Eyrie’ available for the public in a 12-part podcast series entitled “It’s a Pixies Podcast”. The band invites its fans, to discover the origin of the songs from the first beginnings to the final album track album versions with their own ears. In addition, the individual band members offer a “Making-Of” with exclusive insights, personal impressions and thoughts and even a special “Video Booth”. The podcast was produced by and is released by the band with New York Times best-selling author Tony Fletcher as moderator. The “It’s A Pixies Podcast” is available worldwide on June 27th on Apple, Spotify, Acast, Stitcher, Google and several other podcast providers.

Parallel to the album release on 13 September, THE PIXIES embark on their extended 2019-2020 World tour. The tour starts on August 31, as part of the Daydream Festival curated by THE CURE in Pasadena, Californian. They will be sharing the stage for the first time in thirty years since joining forces in 1989 at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. Black Francis and Co. will then continue directly on their big headlining tour in Europe, where THE PIXIES have not been for more than two years. Of course, the US Quartet will also stop in Germany:

05 Oct Berlin, Columbiahalle
07 Oct Cologne, Palladium
15 Oct Munich, Tonhalle

THE PIXIES are undoubtedly among the most influential and most ground-breaking representatives of the Indie Rock of the late 80s. With its iconic “loud-quiet-loud” sound the American band paved the way for countless bands from NIRVANA over RADIOHEAD to PEARL JAM is today still discovered by a completely new generation of music fans. After five genre-defining studio albums - including the platinum-selling cult album ‘Doolittle’ - the formation broke up in 1993 temporarily. In April 2004 they played an internationally celebrated and completely sold out Reunion tour - after more than a 15 years break - which was a longer time than THE PIXIES had existed as a band!

Driven by their constant desire to write new songs, finally, a studio in Wales was booked for the autumn of 2012. After only six days of recording, founding member and bassist Kim Deal decided to retire from the band. Together the remaining members, Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lowering, decided to THE PIXIES continue to keep alive and in 2014 released ‘Indie Cindy’, their first studio album in more than two decades. In addition, they went on tour again, with A PERFECT CIRCLE bassist Paz Lenchantin. Since 2016 Paz is a solid band member. In the same year the band released their second post-reunion album ‘Head Carrier’, on which Lenchantin too was officially heard for the first time. Like the British magazine DIY so aptly stated, “They’re back. They’re still brilliant. God save THE PIXIES.”

In December 2018 THE PIXIES teamed up with producer Tom Dalgety at the Dreamland Studios near Woodstock, NY to complete ‘Beneath The Eyrie’, their second album with the current line-up.
