Even if TOM MORELLO releases ‘The Fabled City’ as the first album under his own name, it’s already the second solo album of the RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and AUDIOSLAVE guitarist. Morello already released his debut album ‘One Man Revolution’ last year, but under the alias THE NIGHTWATCHMAN. The 11 songs of the new album were created under the direction of star producer Brendan O’Brien (AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam etc.) and comprise musical guest appearances of i.e. Serj Tankian (SYSTEM OF A DOWN) and Shooter Jennings.The songs on the new album were first and foremost created on the acoustic guitar. True to his MySpace motto "You don’t have to be loud, son, to be heavy as shit", the stories and sounds on ‘The Fabled City’ display a depth and brilliance, scarce in today’s music. The complexity of the arrangements is a mark in the work of this pioneering musician, esteemed by fans and press alike as innovative rock guitarist and as acoustic Troubadour.
Morello himself describes ‘The Fabled City’ as follows: “It was my goal to capture the energy and emotion of the NIGHTWATCHMAN concerts. On this album, a stronger emphasis has been placed on the rock aspect with the help of solos and riffs, getting combined with darker and more acoustic songs. I had to put up with a lot of losses in my family and among my friends in the past years. ‘The Fabled City’ is my quest for hope with the help of the music and the urge to confront injustices.”
As founding member of RAGE AGAIBST THE MACHINE and AUDIOSLAVE, the exceptional 44 years old guitarist, who is on position 26 of “The 100 Best Guitarists o f all Time” by the US Rolling Stone Magazine, was substantially involved in a stream of genre defining and Grammy rewarded releases. The albums of both formations sold over 30 Mio copies worldwide in total. In summer 2008, Morello played some shows with RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE on various festivals all over Europe; beginning of August, they headlined the “Lollapalooza” festivals in Chicago. In 2008 and 2009, Morello eventually presents the songs of the new album ‘The Fable City’ in the frame of an enormous tour as Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman.
