Sometimes a story doesn’t begin at the beginning, but in the echo - a guitar chord that lingers like a memory, a voice that feels as though it has carried through the years without ever growing quieter. Three decades after their debut, PLACEBO return to that very echo and realise it never truly disappeared.Back in 1996, at the height of Britpop, this band was a disruption. While others celebrated beer, nation and nostalgia, Brian Molko sang of androgyny, addiction and alienation. It was music like an open secret: vulnerable, provocative and radically honest. Songs such as ‘Nancy Boy’ and ‘36 Degrees’ were not hits in the conventional sense, but statements - sharp-edged, uncomfortable, necessary.
