Founded in 1979 by Marc Almond and David Bell, the music band SOFT CELL became the first successful Electro duo in the UK. The two recorded four Synth Pop albums, and their hit ‘Tainted Love’ became number one in 17 countries. Additionally, they got a Brit Award for best single of the year. During SOFT CELL times, Almond and his other band MARC AND THE MAMBAS released the double album ‘Torment and Toreros’.
After SOFT CELL decided to quit in 1984, Almond gained his greatest success as solo artist with the number 1 hit ‘Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart’, which he produced with Gene Pitney, a legend of the 60s. The twelfth solo album, ‘Heart of Snow’, mainly contained cover versions of Russian songs, and there was a 44-page book sold with background information on every song.
Marc Almond studied acting, film, and art, and gave proof of his talent with his role as Seneca at the Théâtre du Châtelet’s in Paris. Not only did he sell more than 30 million records, but also published two bestseller autobiographies, ‘Tainted Life’ and ‘In Search of The Pleasure Palace’ as well as three poem books. Following to the release of his last solo album, ‘The Velvet Trail’ in 2015, there was a sold-out European tour. Together with the poet Jeremy Reed, Almond released an album, which was produced based on the book ‘A Rebours’.
In March 2017, the album ‘Hits and Pieces’ came onto the market, to celebrate Almond’s biggest hits, and it entered the Top Ten of the charts and then peaked in a sold-out UK tour. 2020 will make it happen - Marc Almond comes to Germany to play two exclusive shows in Düsseldorf, Berlin (twice) and Offenbach!
