30th November 2007
Porcupine Tree, Anathema

PORCUPINE TREE doesn't fit in any kind of drawer. They are - without a doubt - one of the most innovative and hardest to categorize bands of today. They take your breath away with their music, which is pending between psychedelic trip-hop, progressive metal and several other genres.

The mastermind behind PORCUPINE TREE is Steven Wilson,  who is well-known for his work as a producer for several bands and projects. He produced the Swedish progressive metal band OPETH as well as the Norwegian female singer ANJA GARBAREK. His side-projects include such bands like NO-MAN, BASS COMMUNION and BLACKFIELD as well as his celebrated collaboration with the Israeli musician AVIV GEFFEN.

PORCUPINE TREE has only one constant: The music that keeps developing from album to album and it exceeds the expectation of the fans every time a new. Initially founded as solo project, PORCUPINE TREE became a band in 1993 and Colin Edwin (Bass), Chris Maitland (Drums) and Richard Barbery (Keyboards) became part of the line-up. Richard was a former member of one of the most experimental 80s bands in Japan. The first (and only) line-up change took place in 2002, when the drummer Chris Maitland was replaced by Gavin Harrison. The first “real” album of the band is called ‘Signify’ and was released in 1996, followed by the album ‘Stupid Dream’ in 1999 which gave them their breakthrough.

Their already ninth studio album ‘Fear of a Blank Planet’ was released in April. Their six month world tour, which hast already started in April will also lead them to Bielefeld, where the band will be guest on 30th November 2007. Be prepared for an epic masterpiece and get enchanted by the creative and musical genius Steve Wilson and his fellers, who perfectly transform his ideas on stage.
