Solar Fake

Consequently electronic, that’s the motto of SOLAR FAKE. “For many years now, I’m dreaming music, which is created entirely electronic”, says Sven Friedrich. People know the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from his band ZERAPHINE as well as DREADFUL SHADOWS. Now he presents, free after the motto “You can’t stand on just one leg”, his new project SOLAR FAKE. “I like many styles in electronic music like Synth Pop, EBM, Industrial or Electro Rock and I don’t see the point in limiting myself to one particular”, he comments the refreshing mixture of his album debut ‘Broken Grid’. Additionally every track has an extremely infecting and catchy chorus as well as refined verses.

Except for the cover version of RADIOHEAD’s ‘Creep’, every song has been written by Friedrich. “Almost every sound I use was created by me”, he reports. “There are many layers and sequencer lines; I wanted to create a transparent sound for.” Electronic songs put whole new demands on the singer Sven Friedrich than rock music. “With ZERAPHINE I can miss the phrasing a bit but for SOLAR FAKE I have to hit the beat exactly.” Textual-wise he deals with topics like deception, self-deception, disturbed perception and mental wounds. (You think you’re) Radical for example deals with penetrating wise guys, ‘The Shield’ talks about psychic wounds, you can get if you’re very sensitive. The mysterious project name SOLAR FAKE is referring to both things, which are completely different than expected and also to the two faces every human has. The album title ‘Broken Grid’ on the other hand stands for a broken shield, a loss that has terrible consequences in most cases.

Already at the age of 6, Sven went to musical school to learn classic guitar. Later piano and drums followed. With 13, he joined his first band, at first as a drummer, later as guitarist. In 1993, the all-rounder is considered as one of the founders of the band, which should later become the DREADFUL SHADOWS of which Sven Friedrich would become the front man. The quintet recorded four albums until they decided to go separate ways in 2000.  Immediately after that, he started the band ZERAPHINE, which also has released four albums so far. His love for electronic music started with especially German acts like PROJECT PITCHFORK, DEINE LAKAIEN and WUMPSCUT. “DEPECHE MODE came later”, he laughs. Of course Sven is planning a live presentation of the SOLAR FAKE songs. “I will be on stage, together with another musician and playing the keyboard. It is planned to show movies in the background and except for my voice, you’ll only hear electronic sounds.” Just consequently electronic.
