Review Flash

Lately I am making friends like crazy over the social network (where else?). So, I made the acquaintance with Tom Baker of Suffolk’s KURSK - a band inspired by classic acts like JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH and PAGAN ALTAR. Tom was so nice to provide me with everything I need and so here we are. So, let’s take a look into the press text:

“KURSK are a four-piece Heavy Metal band hailing from Suffolk, England. Combining the classic influence of NWOBHM with the heavy, cult sounds of the likes of PAGAN ALTAR and BLACK SABBATH, KURSK aim to revive the feeling of the original heavy metal sound which came before them. Much of the music revolves around the dual lead guitar set-up employed by the band. The band have been gigging intensively in (mainly) East Anglia and London over the last 3 years and are looking to book gigs further afield for later this year. The band travelled to Italy in April 2019 to record, and signed with Wormhole Death, who released their self-titled debut album digitally in November 2019. Physical copies will be released in the coming weeks.”

Well, yes the sound is rather classic and old-school and the influences are clearly audible. The guitar sound and the overall production is among the better self-released records. Jack Mitchell’s vocals are the only point in the production where improvement is necessary, he has great moments (‘Queen of the Kursk’ is pretty cool) but I need more of those moments for a higher rating. Otherwise his voice stands out and that is much needed these days.

Conclusion: This is a fine start and I am curious what comes next, check out KURSK!
