Review Flash

These guys baited me in with their motto as a shameless BLACK SABBATH worshipping band. After listening for about five minutes I understood perfectly well what they meant by saying that. SLEEPING VILLAGE was formed in 2016, a leap year and the year Donald Trump became the President of the United States of America. One thing can be stated for sure: I like Rick Dal Cortivo on vocals better than Ozzy which makes SLEEPING VILLAGE more appealing to me than old-school BLACK SABBATH (a shitstorm is brewing I just know that). This band is not simple worshipping, the compositions are full of doom and stoner riffs and hooks but there is also a hint of Groove Metal in there (GRAND MAGUS anyone?). Rick is not only a nice vocalist he also plays a kick-ass down tuned guitar and Gray’s bass is audible and playful throughout the whole five songs. Borchert on drums is constantly more than just serviceable to the song material which makes these three young men a thick and heavy sounding unit that manage to sound fresh and compelling in a genre that is more than 40 years old. My fave is ‘The Siren’s Song’.

Conclusion: If you like Iommi riffs and can’t get enough of good doom stuff check them out.
