Review Flash

UNDERKING is as fresh as can be, formed in 2019 and armed with two EPs that both came out in 2020 or as I call it: The Year of the Plague! Maxwell Jeffries is the head and multi-instrumental nerd-in-chief behind UNDERKING. The best things in life met to inspire Jeffries: Fantasy (High Fantasy I assume, everything else is for peasants), Sci-fi (the complex stuff?) and the heavy Metal greats. ‘Red Sun Rises’ is based on either the Rohan army’s battle of the Pellenor Fields or the battle of Helm’s Deep (I don’t give a flying fuck I love me some Tolkien). ‘Shadow I’ve Become’ on the other hand, is based on the story of Star Wars Darth Maul (dope character, no doubt). Musically this is very variable but rather on the more modern and clean-cut side of Metal when it comes to production, the compositions are bad-ass and in parts still quite rough although the vocals are mostly clean. I dig it though because the sound is not sterile or artificial. I have problems to compare UNDERKING to other bands because I am not used to the sound but that is kind of a compliment on its own right?

Conclusion: If you dig Metal full of variety and rad lyrics about Sith Lords and warriors of Middle Earth you will love this stuff to pieces!
