FIERCE ATMOSPHERES is a Texas based Progressive Metal band that was formed in 2001, ‘The Speed Of Dreams’ is the band’s second full-length output and it is safe to say that this is one of the Progressive Metal records of the year for me. Musically this is more like proggy US Metal than stuff like TDW or AEON ZEN where the artist just goes full on Progressive and does not give a fuck if it is catchy or radio friendly in any way. Don’t get me wrong: these guys sound like a less progressive version of bands like SYMPHONY X or DREAM THEATER, not bad in any way just more straight forward and with much shorter songs than the mentioned bands and catchy in the classic 80s kinda way. The best example is maybe the song ‘The Words that Enslave’, it’s catchy as fuck and has a great middle part that is boosted to another level with the awesome and variable vocals of Taran DePablos and the brilliant riffing of my pal Sean Coogan (MISFIRE) and Eric Gosselin. If you dig high melodic US Metal with a progressive edge and dope vocals you should check this out right now!
Conclusion: If you dig bands like HELIOS or CONTROL DENIED this will make you smile.
