MORTALIS is a kick-ass old-school Speed / Thrash Metal band from La Puente, California. The hard hitting four-piece was formed in 2015 by Luis Velasquez, Sergio Montes de Oca and Vincente “Grim” Avalos with the addition of Austin Spencer, as the band’s second riff machine, two years later. The band is heavily influences by the big four of Thrash Metal (METALLICA, SLAYER, ANTHRAX and MEGADETH) and bands like DIAMOND HEAD, ANNIHILATOR, TESTAMENT, JUDAS PRIEST and MOTÖRHEAD. The rawness of Lemmy’s old gang is felt here and there as well as DIAMOND HEAD’s feeling for great melodies and the edginess and velocity of MEGADETH. MORTALIS play fast, mean and the technicality behind all tracks is top notch. Sergio Montes De Oca’s phrasing and rhythm really reminds me heavily reminds me of the late Mr. Kilmister but the sound of his voice switches between Dave Mustaine’s and Chuck Billy’s pipes (weird but really good). All I all I can just recommend this to every Thrash Metal fan.
Conclusion: Fast, raw and sexy as hell (tons of riffs, solos and dope as fuck vocals)!
