OVERTOUN are a progressive Death Thrash band that consists of musicians from Santiago, Chile and Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in 2014 and ‘This Darkness Feels Alive’ is their second full-length output. Musically this is eyeball meltingly rough vocals on top of a very groove and highly melodic instrumentation. Guitarist Matias Bahamondes’ riffing and melodic style really elevates the material and is nicely countering the rough vocals. This is way more Death Metal influenced than it is by Thrash when it comes to sound and execution but it grooves nonetheless. The album was mastered by Flemming Rasmussen, the producer of masterpieces like BLIND GUARDIAN’s ‘Imaginations From The Other Side’ and METALLICA’s ‘Master Of Puppets’. Check them out and support the Chilean Metal scene, it is well worth it.
Conclusion: If you like your Metal as rough as a bare-knuckle match between a grizzly bear and Dwayne Johnson and add fire, chains and general chaos to that, then you will like this.
