Review Flash

When I was in my teens, my parents frequently described what I was listening to as “sounding like someone in pain”, which I always took as a great compliment. I don’t think it was meant to be. Anyway, nestled on the current coolest recording label out there (Artoffact seem to be greedily hoovering up the best of the best at the moment, and good for them I say) HEADLESS NAMELESS begin their album ‘Ominus Spiritus’ sounding very much like someone in pain. Excellent! Some wonderful discordant wailing punctuating the growing sense of dread and angst on opener ‘Crystalline’ lollops into a series of songs that inhabit a strange but darkly alluring world of Gothic, Doom and a kind of funereal Psychedelia. Which is even better than it sounds. ‘Ash Palace’ is ridiculously over-dramatic and wonderful because of it, there’s a bit of gentle to give you a breather on ‘An’, and then it’s back to chucking as much dark about as possible for pretty much the rest of the album. Try keeping still during bluesy closer ‘Epheremon’… we can all see that foot stomping from here. Give in to it!

Conclusion: HEADLESS NAMELESS will be, ironically, a name to watch out for - already sounding huge in the studio, this will be fierce and immersive live. More like this if you please…
