TENSION is an old-school Heavy Metal band from Leipzig, Germany. The band was formed in 2015, they released their first sign of life the ‘Tension’ EP in 2017 to critical acclaim. I know some press people, gatekeepers and strange dudes in general say the New Wave Of Traditional Metal (NWOTHM) does not exist but bands like TENSION defy this nonsense. TENSION sounds like a NWOBHM band (approximately 1979 - 1983) with their catchiness, distinctive guitar sound and highly melodic approach to heavy music. When it comes to vocals, Maik has many similarities with UNTO OTHERS’ Gabriel Franco and THE NIGHT ETERNAL’s Ricardo, musically there are inspirations heard from IRON MAIDEN and a bit of ANGEL WITCH here and there. ‘Decay’ is full of straight bangers that literally force you to bang your head, raise your fist and play air double-bass. ‘Mistress’ is a good example of how to write and execute a track that gets you a good nine thumbs up from yours truly.
Conclusion: If you like it old-school but NOT sloppy and bad like some of those bands that only got a badly produced single in the 80s: check out TENSION, they do rule!
