Title: Mankind’s Odyssey
Genre: Heavy Metal
Release Date: 22nd February 2022
Label: Ossuary Records
AQUILLA is a rather young band from Warsaw, Poland that were formed in 2015. The band plays straight 80s worshipping steel in the vein of outfits like CAULDRON, ENFORCER and STEELWING (thus fitting the NWOTHM bill). If you dig the 80s and music that is styled after the vibe that comes from that age you will love tracks like ‘Pathfinder’ which starts with a Robocop sample (“Dead or alive, you are coming with me”). The whole record is full of moments like this that give you the feeling you add when sitting in front of the TV in your youth, watching kick-ass movies without a care in the world. On top of that the accent of Blash Raven is just so frigging European that it reminds me a lot of bands I grew to love around 15-20 years ago (STEELWING was and still is one of my all-time faves). If I had to use a term in order to show you how much I want you to buy this record I would say, even if these guys play together since 2015 this is their full-length debut and this makes them the newcomers of the year for me.
Conclusion: If you like music that awakens memories of your first beer in the parking lot of your favourite venue, search no more and buy ‘Mankind’s Odyssey’.
