CD Review: Living The Fire - Newman
- Written by: Dennis Eikenkötter
Artist: Living The Fire
Genre: Thrash Metal
Release Date: 28th October 2023
The last full-length of Dresden Avant-garde Thrash Metal band LIVING THE FIRE came out five years ago in 2018. The Pandemic is more or less over and the band is back with their new long player ‘Newman’. I don’t know if I would call this avant-garde because normally this kinda music is just unlistenable to me or gets me irritated in a matter of a few moments, this however is not the case here. LIVING THE FIRE provide a variety of different textures, from fast paced and almost traditional Thrash / Speed that reminds me of US Metal to more complex high energy stuff like the title track ‘Newman’. The vocals of Clemens sometimes are a bit on the hysteric and high-pitched side of Metal (see NEVERMORE, SANCTUARY) but that is the way I dig it. All in all, I have to say that instead of avant-garde we can just say that this is a Metal band that likes their steel to be forged in a more complex and somewhat progressive kinda way but this ain’t hipster music so we just settle on Progressive metal for now. My favourite is the title track as I think it is the most well-balanced track that is able to showcase the skills of everyone involved.
Conclusion: If you like stuff like NEVERMORE this might tick some of the boxes to appeal to you.
