Faun
This time, the Pagan-folk band FAUN came within the scope of their unplugged programme to the Tropfsteinhöhle (stalactite cave) Schulerloch. The concert at the 26th September was sold out and so they decided to play a second concert at the next day - this one was sold out too! The band founded in 1999 in Gräfelfing near Munich consists during unplugged concerts of Oliver "Satyr" Pade (vocals, Irish bouzouki, nyckelharpa, Celtic harp, lute, Tar, Saz), Sandra Elflein (vocals, violin, flute, hurdy-gurdy), Fiona Rüggeberg (vocals, bagpipes, flute, Chalumeaux, harmonium, Pomeranian, Rebap, Fujara, Seljefloit) and Rüdiger Maul (Bendir, Darabukka, Riq, Tamborello). http://www.faune.de/ / http://www.myspace.com/paganfolk

Damnation Festival 2009: Life of Agony, Therapy?, Destruction, Anathema, Electric Wizard, The Gates of Slumber, Firebird
Damnation Festival is in many ways a victim of its own beautiful success. It was formed initially by fans, for fans, as die hard metal lovers grew weary of over commercialised ventures designed to make money whatever the consequences. This idea has flourished and resulted in a well attended one day Festival in the excellent Leeds University facility, boasting three stages and a wealth of merchandising and franchise outlets.

In Extremo
At 7 PM. there was no queue in front of the venue and the hall itself was only half-filled. But big groups of people kept on streaming into Gorbunova and an hour later, the number of attendees had doubled. Imaginatively dressed individuals such as several men in kilts or something like that stood out of the colourful audience. Now, everyone was waiting for the show to begin. Actually, the German Medieval Rock band IN EXTREMO was a fusion of a nameless medieval music playing formation and a Rock band. Firstly, the two formations played separately, but in 1995 the front man “Das Letzte Einhorn” (aka Michael Robert Rhein) suggested the unifying name IN EXTREMO. Finally in 1997, one of the most popular German Alternative bands was born.

Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz
Just occasionally the Gods of Chaos take an unhealthy interest in one of the gigs I'm attending. Since both SALTATIO MORTIS and FEUERSCHWANZ are two of my favourite bands, I should have known this would be one of them. From delayed flights, to venue changes, from broken cameras to lost setlists, this was a truly hexed affair... except, that is, for the great music and electrifying performance to which I was treated at the gig. The venue had been changed from the Kesselhaus to the SO36 in Kreuzberg.

Hardcore Superstar, Avatar
When one of Sweden’s top rock acts announces to play a couple dates in Germany, you can be sure that fact alone attracts lots of people. We were amongst them and a part of the spectacle that was the show of HARDCORE SUPERSTAR in Karlsruhe.
