Album Review

EDGUY is a German power metal band from Fulda, Germany. The band around mastermind Tobias Sammet was formed in 1992 when Sammet was only 14 years old. Together with Jens Ludwig, Dirk Sauer and Dominik Storch he at first established EDGUY as a cover band. After two demos and a first record (Savage Poetry) the group scored a record deal with AFM Records. EDGUY had their breakthrough with the album ‘Vain Glory Opera’ in 1998, two records after that they went on to Nuclear Blast and left AFM behind. In their career they sold over two million CDs and played sold out gigs in 37 countries all over the world with bands like IRON MAIDEN or AEROSMITH.22 years and 13 records later I have the mission to review this bands new record ‘Space Police – Defenders of the Crown’.

After listening quite a while to the material the first impression is that fans of EDGUY are in for another high quality treat. Aside from the records musical quality I have to admit that the guys are not reinvent something or even try to (which is not a bad thing at all). All I want to say is that there are no surprises at all song wise. Sammet`s voice is clearly in charge of the songs (which I like, there is nothing that bugs me more that ulterior mixed vocals). The material is at times epic and of course sometimes funny, if you are a fan of EDGUY (and there is a lot of them) just buy the stuff blind and unheard…
