Album Review

Mexican / American project ELECTROVOT released their debut album, that is produced by no other than Krischan Wesenberg (ROTERSAND) and Tom Lesczenski ([:SITD:]). It is no mere chance surely, and the fact that the band is something more than just another tedious newcomer is also proved by its numerous compilation contributions and live support for such acts as NITZER EBB, GRENDEL and AMDUSCIA

Pulsating sounds are gradually structured by measured tubby beat and then suddenly overtaken by synthetic layers, introducing the opener ‘The One’ with chasing rhythms and characteristic to the band’s style clear deep vocals and danceable future-pop sound. Romantic melodious chorus of ‘Fate’ gives a respite from its dynamic sequences, which also becomes a distinctive feature of the band. Way darker and much more intimate ‘Dagger Doll’, embellished with short piano passages, demonstrates the highest club capability a mid-tempo track has ever possessed with its powerful steady beat, remarkable refrain and enticing sound. The next ‘Control’ is much straighter imperious track, that will “have control” over your ears and memory, where it will remain for a long time, especially due to beautiful and moving interlude at the end of the song. Beats get more forceful and it becomes hard to resist strong desire to dance to the cold voice and robotic vocoders in ‘Wasted Life’ or to the muffle bass line, sustained on atmospheric backing in 'Turning Point'.

Dark electro influence in the intro of 'Night Soldier' meets distinctive future pop vocals that finally channel the song into the mellow atmospheric flows with gentle voice delivering emotional lyrics: "I am a leaf in the wind Waiting to be reborn I will rest inside your heart To soar once more". The next 'Not Enough' presents a perfect example of pure future pop super hit with deep melodiousness, clear powerful vocals and catchy lead with trademark inclusions of beautiful soaring up melody in the chorus. Piercing sequences, interesting melody development and gothic female vocals on the background turn 'Faded Memory' into one more great club track. 'End Of The Line' is a good album-closer with a typical for the band change of tempo in the refrain. 'Winter Day (Red Flag Mix)' sounds darker and harder than all previous material. Straight beat is interrupted by a sudden break to soft and tender sound with gentle vocals, the tension grows and aptly finds its climax in the sound of heartbeat. Acoustic Mix of ‘The One’ makes the track even more poignant and moving with the vocals pushed in the foreground and vast atmospherics put under piano and strings arrangements. 'Wasted Life (Lights Of Euphoria Mix)' contrasts greatly with the previous track as it's turned into totally club-oriented dance floor bomb.

ELECTROVOT proves that Mexican artist's craftsmanship spreads much wider than harsh electro genre. 'Turning Point' is a rare example of classic pure future pop sound, melodious, catchy, remarkable and highly danceable. All songs possess the highest club potential, so it's hard to pick out some particular highlights. Elaborate and touching lyrics concern mostly personal themes. Diverse remixes offer really interesting interpretations of the songs. Using simple and straightforward sequences and beats ELECTROVOT confirms that all ingenious is simple. The only drawback of their album is a lack of diversity. But the band surely possesses enough talent to improve this in the future.
