Album Review

JASMIN TABATABAI is a well known actress in Germany, but also known as a musician that has made some respectable efforts in the last fifteen years, even as a producer. Now she stroke new paths with an album that is referring to the time from the 20´s ´til 40´s. It was the time of the great “chanteuses” like MARLENE DIETRICH… and that´s what this album tries to sound like. Unfortunately I have to say that it´s only an attempt… The arrangements are very subtle and of great quality, there´s no doubt… and TABATABAI´s vocals are beautiful, tender and sweet. And there´s the rub! In my opinion, that release is too sweet and tender.

The whole album is pouring out such a sugariness, that I grew tired while listening. On every song JASMIN TABATABAI is somewhat chirping and there´s no variety within the whole release. So the release is leaving you with the effortless interchangeability of the songs that doesn´t live up to expectations... and first and foremost doesn´t master the intentions of its creators. One can receive the impression that the album sets the bar too high and fails to reach its own requirements. Although I appreciate JASMIN TABATABAI´s efforts so far, this work is definitely not the big strike…
