Album Review
Handmade solid blues rock is a definition one can make about GOV’T MULE… and would somehow fail, because it´s more than this. The band around singer Warren Hayes, who plays even solo and with the Allman Brothers Band is a construction in which every single instrument develops its own space within the “compositions”. So here´s another failure, because the songs aren´t just songs… they in fact have the character of a big jam session. Every instrument takes place within a song – it´s like a woven structure that fits in something like one can call song. It´s amazing, how organic the several parts melt into a piece of music.
Impulsive rock songs like ‘World Boss’, epic songs like the “homage” to PINK FLOYD, ‘Captured’, or even songs with a bit of reggae-influence, ‘Shout’, is a manifold release that offers unequalled opportunities. And if that wasn´t enough there´s a second CD “on-board” that brings on interpretations by other great musicians like Ben Harper, Elvis Costello and Steve Winwood e.g.! What else to say? Highly recommended…
