Electronic intricacies with the power if indie and the worded force of rap can be deemed quite a unique combination and it is the mixed style German band JONA:S chose to make their brand. The single kicks off with its title track ‘Grau’ in a mildly pushing beat and spoken-word sidestepping, while ‘Allein, zu zweit, zu dritt’ keeps it a little more melancholic in its tone. Apart from the witty lyrics on ‘Einsatz’, taken straight out of every day’s life, it’s the detailed arrangement that keeps up your interest for long. Thrown in for good measure and to top off the single release are two complex renditions, one of the single’s title track for the sound fetishists among you, followed by a new take on the track ‘Mehr, Mehr’. Normally I’m not into the rap stuff at all, but in combination with the other mentioned elements it just works out for me. Definitely one band to keep an eye on for the future!
