The Neon Judgement
Back in the eighties Heerlen had a New Wave Café that was called Inpoet by most people. Every Friday DJ Kitty played the most obscure record during the weekly dance evening event. Sometimes there was a band performing like THE NEON JUDGEMENT in 1985.
It was one of the best visited concerts of Inpoet. It was also the year Dirk Da Davo and TB Frank of THE NEON JUDGEMENT made their most essential album called ‘1981-1984’. Inpoet existed between 1982 and 1992 when it closed permanently. But after almost thirty years the legendary Inpoet revives again during a reunion at The Nieuwe Nor. During this evening not only DJ Kitty will play the music from those days, also THE NEON JUDGEMENT will return to perform again. http://www.theneonjudgement.com / https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Neon-Judgement/172624919465385
Music & Performance
The beginning of the evening is for THE NEON JUDGEMENT. They will be the main act, the only act: Dirk Da Davo and TB Frank will be in the spotlights without any distraction from other bands or music. For those who may forget who they are; the name of the band is projected in humongous letters in the back. But every soul in the venue knows who are on stage. Probably most visitors are the ones who also attended the Inpoet dance evenings in the past, or wished they were there. Both members of THE NEON JUDGEMENT know all this perfectly well and it is clear they like the attention they have. At first they speak a few words that seems to be a mix between Belgium, French and English. When the evening progresses they keep it to their native language. Their performance holds no surprises. TB Frank plays his guitar and has the right side of the stage for himself, Dirk Da Davo stands his ground behind his keyboards.
After the first few songs Davo takes of the leather jacket and somewhere to the end he even leaves is static place behind the keyboard. They seem to love their own performance and the feedback from the audience. It works both ways and the atmosphere is relaxed, fun and has a distinct eighties / nineties feel to it. The only setback for Dirk Da Davo and TB Frank is the non-smoking-stage, something they really hate. But they deal with it. The setlist starts with ‘Too Cold To Breathe’, ‘Sister Sue’ and ‘Factory Walk’ from the ‘The First Judgement EP’ that takes us back to the first days of the band. We stay in those old days during the concert until the song ‘Leash’ is played. It is the only song that is from the new millennium. After that one song THE NEON JUDGEMENT dives back into the dark era and plays the songs we all know best: ‘Fashion Party’ and ‘TV Treated.’ These are last two songs before they leave the stage for that long anticipated smoke. This is the reason it takes so long before both members are back for an encore of two songs.
The leave us after ‘Nion’, the one song we missed so far, and a well done concert performance. Of course the evening is only just begun and DJ Kitty takes over for a tour along all the new wave classics.
