Album Review

What luck for a band to meet a great singer! Since 1994, as THE RAZOR SKYLINE was formed, the band had to change several singers for different reasons. 2009 another vocalist of theirs Karen Kardell gave up the band, and singing in general devoting herself “for other interests”. So the time for Miska Kazda came. 2010 two more members joined the band to play synths and middle eastern percussion. With such a line-up the band recorded their fourth full length album ‘Dark Water Oasis’ with Jon Klein of Specimen/ Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Having a really good vocalist you’ve done like a half of the job for a band. But it doesn’t mean you can relax and do the rest as if nobody hears it behind a beautiful voice. This is what often happens all the time on the modern stage, the whole music of the band is constructed around one strong aspect. Unfortunately musicians forget that except for the strong basement the whole building should be also nice. There is nothing to say against Miska Kazda, she has a beautiful voice and is quite professional. It is pure joy to listen to her. But it is hardly possible to understand what happens in the background. Kind of wall of noise, from time to time a brick of a nice synths falls out of this wall, but this one brick comes out of the stone fall it doesn’t really save the situation.

Thanks to Kazda again there are some melodies on the album. The band is labelled as Goth Industrial, so today such a mess of sounds is supposed to be Industrial. Well, for the lovers of electronic music this album wouldn’t be the best choice, but if you enjoy female vocals you should really check this out.
