Album Review

It was in July that I’ve seen this band for the first time at Gothic Festival in Belgium, where they were filling in for another band who couldn’t attend the festival for unknown reasons. Back then, the voice of singer Reagan wasn’t at its best because of a cold and no offence, but it wasn’t quite a pleasure to listen to it. Now I had the opportunity to listen to their first full-length ‘Let’s Split up it’s safer’ and was pretty surprised to hear she’s a decent voice. It’s firstly appearing on the second album track ‘Lovely, Lovely’, a Goth Rock track in a really classic sonic outfit if you deduct the electronic drums. The next track ‘I don’t know what to say’ opens with droning synths that segue into rocking flourishes carried by a simplistic electronic beatwork.

’Evil’ sees Reagan presenting a much rockier, much rougher facet in her voice which blends in to the overall rougher sound of the little track, while ‘In The Graveyard’ highlights a strong, powerful rhythm section. ‘Generation Fright’ keeps true to its title and sets up an ominous, threatening mood and is one extremely lo-fi track concerning recording quality. But I’m sure there are lots of people who will like that. ‘Castle Rock’ strikes your attention because of its superior electronic beat patterns, which makes it a good candidate to even hit a crowd in an electro club. The title-track closes the album and features spooky choirs instead of real vocals. They’re like a creepy melody played over the 80s-reminiscent drums.

Surely there’s still la lot of stuff to work on for the band, especially regarding the overall recording quality, but apart from that you can say that it’s a pretty atmospheric and well-crafted debut album that displays potential for more.
