Album Review

‘Der weisse Raum’ (The White Room) is TRAUMATAENZER’s debut album, but they’re by no means beginners in the sphere of music, not only they all used to be members of other bands (i.e. GARDEN OF DELIGHT, LE CRI DU MORT etc), they’ve also toured alongside bands like OOMPH, SUBWAY TO SALLY, LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE, UNHEILIG etc and the experience shows throughout, their music is confident and present with a clear vision. They want to create danceable music with thick atmospherics and classical touches, accompanied with strong lyrics (in German) and they comfortably succeed to give just that. The faint echoes of ENIGMA and DEAD CAN DANCE are a plus.

In ‘Traumtaenzer’ (Dream Dancer) and ‘Zwischenspiel der Asche’ (Interlude of Ashes) I’ve particularly enjoyed the spoken parts, in the later the piano and classical guitar strumming solo towards the ending; ‘Monolith’ for the harder sound, darker atmosphere. The ‘Eisprinzessin’ (Ice Princess) intro with its oriental feel makes me wonder if this is a new trend in Goth music, the rest of the song is medievalist accompanied by soft Spanish guitars has its roots already deep. Für die Nacht’ (For the Night) - the music constructs the dramatic elements of the song excellently; the vocals are expressive and powerful. The club mixes at the end provide a good contrast to their album versions. ‘Die Wahrheit’ (The Truth) Club mix featuring Leichenwetter especially has enlivened and made the original song better, which was far too affected and somewhat listless, though its melancholy was the thing that complimented a subject such as ‘The Truth’ the best.

TRAUMTAENZER are a very promising band from German Goth scene, their music is enjoyable and wonderful. Even without the knowledge of the language one feels that there are strong lyrics behind it. The sound is certainly produced on a professional level and is crisp and clear. This album should be one of many and is definitely a great showcase of their abilities and so worth of adding to your collection.
