Album Review

SIR SIMON is a moniker of a composer and musician Simon Frontzek, who started out in his Berlin apartment and took his songs on the road, released a debut album ‘Battle’ which is now followed by the second entitled as ‘Goodnight, Dear Mind’ which is an offering of his sensitive and intelligent songs, somewhere on the map between folk and pop Indie. The strongest point here is definitely the lyrics. The music is a very quiet affair with a lot of thoughtfulness. Best songs from here: ‘Right Place, Wrong Time’ - love melody& rhythm, the song’s catchiness, its sliver of passion, its rockier position, for those reason also ‘Exit Signs’, the great narrative going through it also, which is also highly enjoyable with its twists in the album titled ‘Goodnight, Dear Mind’ - a great title too! Some of the songs are far too sleepy like the last one ‘Goodbye’ which is more of a lullaby - but then he calls his creations nocturnal music.

‘Goodnight, Dear Mind’ is an album that you can relax to, gently sway to its peacefulness and enjoy as much as a first coffee in a solitary morning or a morning before your significant other or your family gets up or as the singer intended in the evening, late night... You’re in a reflective mood, somewhat dreamy, folding into introspection. You feel a bit melancholy, but not too much, just in that way when it doesn’t hurt. For that this music is perfect as well as a concert where you want to unwind but not spend too much energy either. Frontzek a.k.a. SIR SIMON feel s very much in his shoes here and obviously enjoys it, which in turn means you enjoy his music also for the connection that it creates. Moreover he captures something very beautifully human in its fragility, music that understands what being human is. Wonderful album.
