milamar hararMyths belong to the world heritage city Harar in Egypt like the tangle of their old city streets and the smell of numerous markets, at which buyers and sellers deal with contraband from the near Somalia or far China. One of those legends is about the feeding of spotted hyenas every evening, where the predators come close to humans almost face to face. ‘Harar’ is the name of the new MILA MAR album, their sixth in 25 years.

The usual Pop culture calendar does not apply for that band that never fulfilled contemporary style expectations, but created their own sound universe. There are ten songs between the times, between the languages, between the worlds; ten songs full of surreal beauty. The laments about loneliness, fear of loss, and transience of the previous EP ‘Haime’ is now followed by ‘Harar’ and its more optimistic atmosphere of departure. Initially, the album opener ‘Morki’ appears archaic. This is where the journey begins, and it leads from Africa (‘Hyena’) and the Orient (‘Ismare’) to the Lands of the Sami.
