The stars of the Night of the Proms 2019 are certain: Alan Parsons, Al McKay’s Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, Eric Bazilian & Rob Hyman of THE HOOTERS, LESLIE CLIO, “Mister Music” JOHN MILES and the Canadian soprano singer NATALIE CHOQUETTE present their greatest hits with the musical accompaniment of a symphonic orchestra.

At the Night Of The Proms, Classic meets Pop, aria meets chart hit, suit meets leather jacket, stilettos meets chucks and Tschaikowsky meets THE HOOTERS. In one moment, the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra and the Fine Fleur Choir under direction of the Brazilian conductor Alexandra Arriche plays classics from Brahms, Händel, Verdi or Bach, and in the next moment, together with the Rock band NOTP-Backbone, the musicians accompany the greatest hits of legends of the rock and pop history. With the motto “Classic meets Pop”, the organizer give proof that classic music also works beyond the typical, classic conventions - presented in a way, that is unusual and unique at the same time. Supported by a spectacular light show and large-scale projections, the three hours running programme becomes an audio-visual pre-Christmas happening.

With producer legend ALAN PARSONS, this year a familiar face is on stage, because ten years ago, he already was a guest of this event series. The still permanently touring British man ranks as one of the best producers worldwide, and with ‘Eye in the sky’ or ‘Don’t answer me’, he delivered global radio hits. As a producer, Parsons is responsible for the legendary albums of the greatest stars of the music business, like ‘Abbey Road’ of THE BEATLES and ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ of PINK FLOYD. Also the Proms hymn ‘Music’ by JOHN MILES got the right sound from ALAN PARSONS. After he was nominated for a Grammy thirteen times, in 2018 he was nominated in the category “Best immersive audio album” and he got his first Grammy for the anniversary edition of ‘Eye in the Sky’.

Al McKay’s EARTH, WIND & FIRE EXPERIENCE will turn the Night of the Proms into a huge dance floor. Until today, the songs OF EARTH, WIND & FIRE are part of a good party play list. From 1973 till 1981, guitarist and songwriter Al McKay was a member of that legendary US funk band and together with mastermind Maurice White, he wrote hits like ‘September’, ‘Sing a Song’ or ‘Best of my Love’, which all led to a considerable collection of platinum albums and Grammys. During his time before EARTH, WIND & FIRE, McKay worked as a guitarist for no less successful stars like Sammy Davis Jr. or Ike & Tina Turner.

For decades, the hits of the US rockers THE HOOTERS belong to the daily routine of most German radio stations. ‘All You Zombies’, ‘500 Miles’ or ‘Johnny B.’ are just a few songs of the band from Philadelphia, which celebrated its breakthrough after the performance at the Live-Aid-Festival in 1985. From the first Columbia Records album in 1985, more than two million copies were sold. At the beginning of the nineties, the road to success also started in Europe. In Germany, they played as supporting act of the legendary “The Wall” concert of Roger Waters in Berlin.

With Leslie Clio, a young German artist joins the artists on stage. She describes her style as Soul-Pop. In 2012, her debut single ‘Told You So’ was releases, and short after, her second single ‘Couldn’t Care Less’ became catchy song of the year, and she was invited to a show of Harald Schmidt and to “Schlag den Raab”. In 2015, she was one of five members of the German Eurovision Song Contest jury. After three albums, in 2018 she participated in the fifth season of “Sing meinen Song” and convinced with her own and incomparable way to interpret the songs of the other participants.

Exactly 20 years later, with Natalie Choquette an artist returns to the Night of The Proms stage, who caused furore during her performance in 1999. Then, Choquette was heavily pregnant and shined with humorously interpreted arias, and according to the audience, she outshined stars like ZUCCHERO and STATUS QUO. The same praise came from the feuilleton to honour this extraordinary soprano singer.

Naturally, also for the 26th edition of the German Night of the Proms, John Miles is fixed part of the programme. With his world hit ‘Music (was my first love)’, the pleasant Brit from Newcastle not only provides the hymn of the tour, but also thrills the audience for years with his interpretations of well-known hits.
