Franz Ferdinand - “Hits to the Head” Tour

Over 15 million records sold worldwide, more than 1.1 billion streams, 14 platinum and 9 gold awards: FRANZ FERDINAND are not only among the most successful bands in Great Britain of the last 20 years, they are also one of the last remaining bastions of the mighty wave of UK bands that overwhelmed the world with fresh Rock sounds at the beginning of the new millennium. The band’s 20th birthday is therefore a great occasion to look back. With the title ‘Hits To The Head’, FRANZ FERDINAND will go on a great greatest hits tour in 2022, during which they will take place between March 22nd and March 3rd. May 2022 also play five concerts in Germany in Munich, Cologne, Berlin, Leipzig and Wiesbaden.

Not only in Europe, but also in North America and even Asia, FRANZ FERDINAND has for years been an extremely stylish guarantor for rock music that is as danceable as it is demanding. Because with each of their five albums to date, the band around singer, guitarist and thought leader Alex Kapranos has developed substantially without lose sight to the typical trademarks - edgy staccato guitars, driving beats, instantly igniting hook-lines and a seldom magical energy between melancholy-coloured compositions and euphoric life-affirming attitude.

The formation, which was founded as a quartet in 2002, has never simply copied these sound aesthetics, but rather adapted them and changed with each album with the help of constantly changing and complementary genres such as Noise Rock, Disco or Pop. FRANZ FERDINAND has succeeded in doing something that is seldom found in today’s Rock world: being substantial and compatible with the masses at the same time, constantly developing and still remaining unmistakable. On top of that, they are almost single-handedly responsible for the global renaissance of Post Punk in the late seventies and the New Wave of the early eighties.

It became clear at an early stage that the four friends from Glasgow would be a band with a lot of potential: Their very first single ‘Darts of Pleasure’ landed a first notable success in 2003 with a top 50 placement in England, and four months later, the second single ‘Take Me Out’ was released that even made it to number 3 on the UK singles chart. When their self-titled debut album was released in March 2004, word of the band’s quality had already spread across Europe: ‘Franz Ferdinand’ climbed into the album top 40 all over Europe and even in the USA and Australia, in England it reached 3rd place . At the end of the same year, the band was awarded the highly renowned Mercury Prize as well as a BRIT Award and an Igor Novello Award.

Since then, the band has consistently enjoyed great success: Each of the four other albums - ‘You Could Have It So Much Better’ (2005), ‘Tonight: Franz Ferdinand’ (2009), ‘Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Actions’ (2013 ) and ‘Always Ascending’ (2018) - reached at least 6th place on the UK charts. Seven singles made it into the top 20 in England, including such young Rock classics as ‘(The Dark of the) Matinée’, ‘Do You Want To’ and ‘Walk Away’.

On the occasion of the band’s 20th birthday, FRANZ FERDINAND will present all these hits as well as a few newer songs live on their first best-of tour, and this with a personal change: as part of the second line-up change in the band’s history, from now on, Audrey Tait will be the first woman belonging to the band. She replaces the founding member Paul Thompson, who recently stepped out in all friendship, and will support Alex Kapranos (vocals, guitar), Dino Bardot (guitar), Robert Hardy (bass) and Julian Corrie (keyboards) on drums. An exciting breath of fresh air for one of the bands with sustained worldwide success, which is always repositioning itself stylistically courageous and progressive.
