Review Flash

As a Rock fan, you will know SPACE ACE legendary guitarplayer of KISS and ACE FREHLEY who did several solo-releases, decided it was time for a cover-album. For ‘Origins Vol.1’ he asked some of his friends to contribute and so he can be heard mostly playing guitar, while his friends will perform vocals or play some instruments. Frehely didn’t change or rearrange the songs he covers too much, but you will definitely her his unique style. I had high expectations of ‘Spanish Magic Castle’ and ‘Parasite’ as John5 contributed solos to these songs but he failed to add a unique and energetic touch to them. Of course, there are some KISS classics as well. ‘Cold Gin’ sounds nearly like a live version of nowadays, while ‘Rock And Roll Hell’ sounds the way you are used to hearing it. For ‘Fire and Water’ Frehley teamed up with Paul Stanley who contributes amazing and very harmonic vocals. The ultimate highlight is ‘Emerald’, SLASH shows that his solos are always unique and high quality, no matter if he performs on his own releases or as a guest.

Conclusion: A must-have for an ACE FREHLEY fan, a nice to have for everybody who thinks that the world needs more cover albums.
