Review Flash

HURONIAN is a band from Italy that came together in 2020, apparently with the mission to make the most aggressive and hateful mix of Death and Black Metal they physically can. I tried to learn about the name of the band but it is either some stuff that has to do with native people that used to live in Canada or something that is connected to a series of ice ages occurrences that happened quite some time ago (I’d rather not get into details because I would have to cite really big Wikipedia articles and I am too lazy to do so). This EP named ‘Beyond Frozen Heights’ is a follow-up to the band’s first full-length from 2021 (‘As Cold as a Stranger Sunset’) and yeah as I write this, I do realize that they do have a thing for coldness so I guess the ice age thing is where it's at. Musically this is described as melodic Death Metal but I beg to differ: this is not Grind or Brutal Death but I would never define this as “melodic” as the bands overall sound still is way too rough, aggressive and just as black-hearted as a knife to the spine. The growls of the dude called DL are fierce as hell and the overall sound and vibe is bestial and as straight forward as speeding bullet. For me this is not a band to listen to all day or every day but there are moods and moments that let me enjoy this.

Conclusion: If you ever got punched in the face and kinda liked it this might be for you.
