THE CRASHLANDERS is a Swedish trio which was influenced not only by the Swedish pop but also by the Italo disco! After two albums they are back with ‘Nätter’ a best-of CD which at the same time signifies the start of their collaboration with the Electric Fantastic Sound.
The good news is that Erika Nyström’s voice maintains something from the playful atmosphere of the disco. The bad news is that their combination of Swedish Pop and Italo disco is outdated, and at least in the terms they play it shows its age. To put it in terms of movies who would want to go and see a new version of let’s say ‘Saturday Night Fever’? A version, where the only aim of a bunch of teenagers would be to get dressed like John Travolta (or not) and have dancing fun during Saturday Night and that transpires to be the only aim of their lives...
Even if the soundtrack was more modern, still the whole thing is obsolete. Though you might have a bit of fun especially with the opening ‘Dårnanas Fest’ which might remind you of the old times (and the animosity between the Punks and the Popies). This kind of fun might continue here and there with let’s say ‘Come On’ or ‘Arbetarbarn’ - one of the best songs in this CD ‘ but that would be pretty much all. The band needs desperately to get rid of the old tempos and throw a fresh light into the dancing music. This CD was like a night in the museum without the much necessary fun anticipated from such a production.
