There have always been just seven notes. The number of chords has also its limit. Somehow somebody still manages to create beautiful meaningful melodies of those seven dots between five lines. But more often it doesn’t happen. Unfortunately, CEPHALGY is the band of the second category. Doing everything typical, using the same intonations, words, melodies and sounds they stay just one band of million others. This project will have a success first of all among people who aren’t really into electronic scene. There can be a lucky chance, that somebody will listen to CEPHALGY before he or she heard dozens of other dark electro bands and didn’t lost the difference between them yet.
Maybe then they will have a chance to surprise some newbie by mixing gothic and electro. Even German lyrics and female additional “vocals” don’t save the album ‘Leid statt Liebe’. Speaking instead of singing with simple electronics - we’ve heard this thousands times already, and I can’t find any reason to think it is worth to do it again. Just inconsistence of emotions of the lyricist makes me wondering. In one track there are lines “No you and I”, in the next one: “Just you and me”. Mostly lyrics are consisting of different word, often repeated and not connected to each other. It is difficult to imagine even more mediocre album, than this one. If “a mixture of gothic and electro with German love hating lyrics” makes you think “wow, that could be interesting” - go on, listen to this. You won’t be disappointed. But don’t lose too much time on this, there are too many ways to spend it better.
