Album Review

ENEMYINSIDE is a Hard Rock force to be reckoned with. In a world where people have gotten tired of all the mainstream cookie cutter bands like HINDER, ENEMYINSIDE reaches back to early 2000 when Nu-metal and Rock were still a powerful combination and unleash a sound that is similar to groups like SPINESHANK, STONE SOUR and SCARS OF TOMORROW. The result is a very catchy, yet harsh blend of music that doesn’t rely on predictable harsh verse, clean chorus styles and despite a somewhat raw sound, just churns right along with a few surprises in between. Tracks like ‘Withering’ are fast and just slam right along without much remorse yet carry quite a bit of melody without sacrificing the pummelling riffs. Other tracks like ‘One Of A Kind’ carry a memorable chorus and lets the song build upon itself- opening hard and rasping but building towards a more bearable sound that is tolerable by both Hard and Soft Rock fans.

The bigger surprises come from the more hybrid genre led tracks like the keyboard driven ‘Snot’ which seems almost Goth-Rock tinged and would fall more in line with fans of a group like DARKSEED. ‘Mislead’ can be considered the album ballad with its slow, nearly acoustic pace which is quite haunting and shows the more emotional side of the band. The slower vocal style isn’t quite as powerful as it is on the harder tracks, but it still leaves an impact; some could consider this style akin to recent TAPROOT. Overall, the album has a very solid sound and should appeal to all fans of the Rock genre and even those along the side of Alternative Metal. Despite no amount of blasting ‘in your face’ solos or harsh vocals that sound like they are ready to kill, ‘Whatever Comes’ prepares listeners to expect the unexpected.
