Album Review
Three released albums and some tours with IN FLAMES, HELLOWEEN and STONE SOUR have to be taken in account for the Swedish Melodic Death Metal band AVATAR that released their fourth album ‘Black Waltz’. It’s no wonder that bands like IN FLAMES, SYSTEM OF A DOWN and even RAMMSTEIN were declared as a reference to AVATAR’s music and as a result the expectations while listening to the album have been overblown. I really wish that those exaggerations made by labels would stop in order to give the artist the chance of a realistic rehearsal.
It´s not that AVATARS ‘Black Waltz’ is that bad. Some ideas in songwriting and composing, the mixture of metal elements (to be honest, there are more influences of Nu Metal or Power Metal than Melodic Death), industrial parts and even the influence of country music are quite interesting but when it comes down to it, it´s neither more than a solid release that causes no harm nor is it that innovative as the labels makes us believe. Nevertheless, ‘Black Waltz’ is an entertaining release for a very short period but as measured by its predecessors and the huge names the label is referring to, I have to say that it doesn´t meet the requirements…
