Album Review
BEYOND THE GATES is a relatively new band from Italy. After facing some line-up changes and other, more mundane problems regarding their sound quality they’ve released this CD which is their first full length one, or rather should I say an extended EP? It opens with a rather wonderful instrumental piece and then the more brutal vocals enter. If there’s something very characteristic about this band it is the combination of vocals. At times the brutal death growls of Christian and the more metalcore ones of Roberto sound like a combination of Dr Evil and Mini Me. This sense of theatricality is surely present in ‘Soul Crisis’ and will make one either to love or to hate the band. They definitely add something very distinctive to the aura of the band which is difficult to find these days. Maybe the best song in this CD is ‘The Remains Of Gods’ which at times brought to my mind SABBAT’s ‘Blood For The Blood God’. Interesting work...
