Album Review
Running water and a overlay in German starts off this forward to the new project from DAS FORTLEBEN. 'Anstalt' gets off to a slow start and so far I'm not seeing where they are trying to go with this. Track three, 'Weltenbrand', has happy-clappy guitar and drum work with a vocal overlay which again sadly doesn't do anything for me and 'Krieg' with it's sound effect bells fares little better although it's by far the best track on the album so far. '...schöne Zeit', 'Des Gottes letzter Wille', 'Massengrab:Mensch (Ein stiller Sturm)' and 'Sehnsucht' all pass in a blur of sound effects and vocal overlays without ever once really grabbing hold of me and I feel that maybe it's me not getting this album, but it feels unimaginative and self indulgent, not to mention very “samey”. 'Todesangst' is the only track that ever really gains it's own identity and this track I understand with it's dark threatening overtones and beautifully crafted mix. All in all I'm sorry to say it's not an album I can praise to the skies but if you like experimental stuff and monotone chic then I'm sure it might be for you.
